West Islip board approves consent agenda, budget transfers and several resolutions

The West Islip Union Free School District Board of Education approved its consent agenda and a series of motions during its meeting, carrying items on personnel, budget transfers and several routine resolutions by voice vote.

Board members approved a memorandum of agreement with the West Islip Teachers Association Teaching Assistant Chapter and the employee listed in the district backup after a motion and second (motion introduced in SEG 002–005; vote carried SEG 007–011). The board also approved the personnel consent agenda for listed staff appointments and extracurricular assignments, and recognized the retirement of paraprofessional Donna Probert, effective Jan. 4, 2025.

The board approved several business motions presented by Ms. Pilati: general- and capital-fund budget transfers (4461, 4463–4467; 4462 in the capital fund), contracts on the agenda and the surplus of miscellaneous books at Beebe Elementary. The board then approved a resolution to destroy unused ballots from the May election and a resolution authorizing the district to implement recommendations from the Special Education Committee and arrange for appropriate services for the students listed in the backup. A final resolution approved eligibility-based property-tax exemptions under the relevant section for volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers. The board also announced that beginning in February it will begin live-streaming Board of Education meetings to increase public access. The meeting then moved to other business and adjourned to executive session to discuss personnel, negotiations and litigation.
