During the district update, the Presenter told attendees that the New York State Education Department adopted the Portrait of a Graduate Framework and that it will create "new pathways for students to demonstrate competencies leading to graduation." The Presenter added, "I want to assure our community the academic rigor inside our classroom will remain unchanged."
The district identified the Communications Department and the District's Director of Professional Learning, Danielle Oterio, as partners who will develop short informational videos to explain the plan and what it means for students, families and staff. The Presenter said the Portrait of a Graduate will be featured in a spring speaker series and that implementation will occur in phases over the next several years.
No specific timelines, assessment methods, or changes to graduation requirements were detailed during the update. District leaders framed the remarks as preparatory information and pledged to continue stakeholder communication as the phased rollout proceeds.
