West Islip students describe Eswatini service trip, CTE wins and district AI vision

Students also described CTE and internship successes. A senior who said he is pursuing a career in engineering credited machining and CNC classes and instructors for helping him secure a large scholarship and an internship opportunity.
Administrators introduced a short video and an AI vision statement that the district will publish on its website. The district explained a "stoplight" approach to AI in classrooms: red activities prohibit AI, yellow activities allow organizing and require citation, and green activities allow brainstorming, research and cited use.
Why this matters: the presentations highlight both student learning outside the classroom and in‑school CTE outcomes, while the district’s AI guidance represents an early local approach to integrating generative tools with guardrails and published guidance for families and staff.
