Whitney Point board installs officers, approves routine year-ahead appointments

The Whitney Point Central School District board convened its reorganization meeting and completed customary organizational business for the 2024-25 year, including officer elections, oaths of office and a slate of routine annual appointments.

Acting as chair at the start of the meeting, the presiding trustee announced the appointment of Stacy Black as district clerk with a $7,210 stipend; the board moved, seconded and voted in favor, and Black administered oaths for appointees and trustees. The board then nominated and elected Stephanie Chaffee as board president and Chris Whittall as vice president; both were sworn in.

Trustees approved a set of law-firm appointments to provide general and specialized counsel for the district, named several official bank depositories (including JPMorgan Chase, Citizens Bank, KeyBank, NBT and T Bank), and authorized the treasurer or deputy treasurer to invest account balances for periods up to one fiscal year in accordance with Education Law section 1723. The board also set regular meeting dates for the year and designated representatives for regional entities including the New York State Public Schools Statewide Workers' Compensation Trust, naming Zachary Woodard as the district's representative.

Other consent-agenda approvals included authority for the superintendent to make temporary and per-diem personnel appointments and to approve conference attendance within budget, and authorization for signature reproduction on checks by the treasurer or deputy treasurer.

The board voted on each item individually; routine motions carried by voice vote as noted in the meeting record. The meeting closed the public portion and moved to executive session later in the evening.
