West Islip board approves transfers, contracts and bids; superintendent says state aid matches projections (about $10,000 short)

At its meeting, the West Islip Union Free School District Board of Education approved routine finance items on the agenda, including budget transfers across the general, school lunch and capital funds, several contracts and surplus declarations, and a slate of bids for the 2025–26 school year.
Ms. Kelly, reporting for the Finance Committee, summarized the treasurer's report and financial statements and recommended approval of multiple transfers and contract awards, including a multi-year service agreement with BOCES for network copiers. The board moved, seconded and approved the items by voice vote.
Superintendent Dr. Romanelli gave an update on state aid, saying final state aid runs arrived the night before and the district's projections were largely accurate. "We are receiving roughly the same amount of state aid that we projected. It's actually about $10,000 less than we projected," he said, noting that the district typically budgets conservatively and has 12 days to make any budget adjustments before the vote. He added the district did not receive the hoped-for increase in state aid that might have allowed restoration of previously discussed cuts.
The board also heard that audits and interim testing by R.S. Abrams and internal auditors are scheduled for June and mid-May respectively, and approved surplus library materials and multi-year service agreements presented in the packet.
