Whitney Point board told pool turnover delayed to January as finishing work remains critical

The Whitney Point Central School District board heard a capital-project update that pushed the pool turnover from December into January as contractors complete overhead and finishing work.

Presenter (speaker 5) told the board the project team is "now projecting January," and said the schedule depends on completing high-level mechanical and lighting work before installers can set pool deck tile and remove lifts without damaging new finishes. He described a duct/steel-joist coordination conflict the team is resolving with its mechanical engineer and said the district has a path forward to avoid impacts to system performance.

The update listed several remaining priorities: completing roof and masonry work at the CEA to make the building watertight, removing a partition wall over the December break to tie the CEA and pool areas together, receiving bleachers expected in January, and addressing punch-list items on locker-room and pool-area finishes. The presenters reported 208 project change orders to date and said the board has approved more than $1,000,000 in change orders; contractor payments are roughly 94.5% of contract value when district purchase orders and incidental payments are included.

Board members pressed the team on schedule realism and asked for a consolidated subcontractor timeline that rolls up each trade’s schedule. One board member asked whether the January target is attainable; the presenter replied there is a clear path but emphasized the need to accelerate productivity on finish trades so crews do not fall behind.

The project team said it will schedule weekly closeout calls to monitor submittals, contract closeouts and the timely submission of as-builts and other closeout documentation.

The board did not take formal action on the schedule during the update. The district will continue monitoring contractor progress and report back to the board during monthly updates.
