VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — The Valley Stream 24 Union Free School District Board of Education voted Wednesday to cast the district’s votes for three Nassau BOCES board candidates and approved a key personnel appointment ahead of the district’s spring events and budget calendar.
Trustee Clark moved and the board approved the district’s votes to fill three Nassau BOCES seats effective July 1, 2025, naming Michael Jaime, Fran Langsner and B.A. Schoen as the district’s choices. “Be it resolved that the Board of Education of Valley Stream, Union Free School District number 24, after opportunity for consideration discussion, hereby cast its votes to fill these 3 Nassau BOCES board seats effective 07/01/2025,” Trustee Clark said while making the motion.
On a separate motion, the board appointed John Baniel Jr. as director of pupil services, effective July 1, 2025, on a four-year probationary appointment subject to Education Law and Board of Regents rules. The board recorded compensation for the position at $176,000 and set the probationary period to expire June 30, 2029.
Several other agenda items moved on voice votes or by consent. Trustee Clark moved items A2 through A15 on the consent calendar, which the board approved. Education items B1 and B2, and finance item C1, were also moved and approved as listed. President Hernandez called for no public comment cards on the new business items 1–8 before the motions were passed.
Before closing the public portion of the meeting, trustees voted to enter executive session for personnel and other legal matters with the superintendent and the board attorney present. The motion to go into executive session was approved without additional public discussion.
The board also approved the minutes of March 19 and April 9 earlier in the meeting.
