Fairfield Area SD rolls early Chromebook replacements and launches ParentSquare communications

Technology staff told the board the district is in year three of a four-year life-cycle replacement for student and staff devices and that incoming kindergarteners, fifth-graders and ninth-graders will receive Chromebooks they keep as they progress through the grade bands.
The tech lead said staff prepared devices earlier than in past years and have begun placing them in classrooms. Training for a core group of teachers on makerspace equipment has already occurred; additional teachers are volunteering time for training on items such as a one-button studio and a laser engraver.
Staff also described the district’s content migration to a new website, training for content managers, and the rollout of ParentSquare for family engagement. The tech staff said families who do not install the ParentSquare app will still receive district communications by email or text, and that school secretaries will help families whose contact information does not match Skyward, the district student information system.
