District reports drop in assaults, says vaping remains a concern

School administrators told the East Allegheny School District board the district has seen improvements in student safety and attendance but that vaping remains a persistent problem.
A staff member delivering the administrative report said the district recorded about 60 assaults last year and reported far fewer this school year, noting "we're down" to lower incident counts in the first and second semesters. The report named attendance as a priority and credited weekly meetings among administrators, counselors and partner agencies for recent gains. On vaping, the speaker said, "There were 39 vaping incidents last year. This year... we're 1 short of that," and said some products tested positive for THC; disciplinary responses have increased but have not eliminated the behavior.
The board and presenters also highlighted student and program successes: a Logan student band and chorus spring concert, upcoming graduations, and a career-technical education student, Colin Allen, who was recognized for state-level success in collision repair technology and will compete nationally. The presenter noted East Allegheny School District earned an Ascend Math gold medal designation for grades 7–12.
Board members praised staff and volunteers for event organization and student support. The administrative report also noted summer school will run July 1–26 and that the district will participate in a distracted-driving campaign developed by the county district attorney's office.
