Superintendent reports unexpected enrollment gain, credits curricular changes and charter recapture

“Once those things became more public...we would see more reclamation from Charter and Cyber,” Dr. Long said, adding that the district had “gained 36 back from Charter” while losing about 23 elsewhere, leaving the net increase. He noted ninth grade in particular had risen and that the district added course sections (including an additional ninth-grade civics and English section) to accommodate the shift.
Dr. Long highlighted classroom observations and teacher adjustments to schedule changes, saying students are more engaged and transitions have decreased anxiety: “The kids are in class...I really can't commend the teachers enough for embracing all of the change,” he said. He also said class sizes remain under 30 but that continued trends could require further adjustments. Dr. Long said a fuller superintendent’s report with additional context will be provided at the next meeting.
No formal action was taken; the discussion was presented as part of the administration’s reports to the board.
