Board hears large transportation cost increase and $725,000 credit offer from Brightbill

Staff said the district’s adjusted transportation cost for next year will be about $3,000,000 and that the change will produce an increase of roughly $400,000 from this year to the next. To ease the immediate impact, Brightbill offered a $725,000 credit the district can use to offset and phase in the price jump. Staff said they compared the proposal with other districts and contractors and believe the pricing is in line with market expectations; they recommended placing the contract on the consent agenda for next week rather than taking final action this evening.
Board members asked clarification questions but no formal motion or vote was recorded on the contract tonight. Staff noted that some of the cost changes reflect an annual transportation cost index provided by PDE and that the contract includes a floor (the cost index will not go below 2.75%).
