At the Jan. 20 meeting, district resident and parent Andrew Brooks asked the board to pursue adding whole and 2% milk to school menus after the federal 'Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2025' was signed in mid‑January.
Brooks urged administrators to give the district’s food‑service director authority to update menus, saying whole milk provides protein, calcium and vitamin D and that students would welcome the change. The superintendent said the law permits districts to serve whole milk but does not mandate it; the administration has reached out to the district’s Director of Food Services and is waiting for more specific guidance from the U.S. National School Lunch Program and the State Department of Education before altering menus.
Administrators said they will monitor federal rulemaking and guidance tied to new dietary guidance and indicated an intent to explore restoring whole or 2% milk to menus if state and federal directions allow. The superintendent also noted the district had circulated a white paper from the federal government and expects additional clarifying guidance before implementation.
No immediate menu changes were announced; administration said it would follow up with the commenter.
