Leah Mulhern elected board president as four directors are sworn in at Cheltenham School District reorganization meeting

Cheltenham Township — At a Dec. 2 reorganization meeting, the Cheltenham School District Board of Directors swore in four newly elected directors and chose Leah Mulhern as board president in a 5–4 roll-call vote.
Judge Josh Tolliver of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas administered oaths to Caroline Watts, Leah Mulhern, Daniel (Dan) Schultz and Zachary Epps after district officials read certificates of election from the Montgomery County Board of Elections certifying the winners of the Nov. 4 municipal election.
Mulhern, who was sworn in during the ceremony, said three themes guided her candidacy: "communication, collaboration, and community." "Communication is not just as simple as individual conversations or quick text," Mulhern said, adding she aims to improve the district's internal and external processes and "follow through" across the board.
The other nominee for president emphasized collaborative leadership and described a long record of work in educational leadership, saying the president's role is to "organize the group's collective actions toward those goals." After discussion, Miss Hatcher called the roll; the chair announced that Mulhern received five votes to Dr. Whiting's four, and Mulhern was declared elected board president.
The board proceeded to elect a vice president. Jenny Lohman and another nominee accepted their nominations; after a roll-call vote Lohman was declared elected with five votes to four. Lohman thanked colleagues and said she looked forward to working with the leadership team to advance district goals.
Before adjourning, the board approved the time and place of regular legislative board meetings for calendar year 2026 as listed on the agenda. With no public commenters present for either the agenda or non-agenda comment periods, the board made a motion to adjourn and closed the reorganization meeting.
