Student council and Eastern Center update: charity drives, concerts and program expansion

At the start of the Dec. 9 meeting, student council representative Emma Zubairu summarized recent student activities: a Thanksgiving charity distributing turkey baskets, a $100 student-council donation to Latinos Unidos, a Red Cross blood drive that registered 37 participants, and upcoming winter and choral concerts.
"Our student council gave $100 to one of our local clubs, Latinos Unidos, to fund their fundraising events," said Emma Zubairu during the student council report. She also noted a range of student service projects and scheduled musical performances.
Later in committee reports, the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology reported program successes: 987 industry-standard certificates issued in 2024–25 (857 recognized by the Pennsylvania Department of Education), paid internships for 31 students, and a September enrollment of 674 (up from 660). The Eastern Center also approved a construction management program that will create opportunities for roughly 30 students currently on waitlists.
Eastern’s report emphasized career pathways and industry credentials as drivers of student opportunity and workforce readiness.
The board acknowledged these updates and moved on to governance items; no formal votes were required for the reports.
