A Cheltenham High School junior addressed the board Tuesday asking for clarity about the future of the high school football program amid an ongoing investigation.
"I have one high school football season left," said Eli Steeman, who identified himself and said he and teammates are worried about uncertainty affecting players not involved in the incident under review. He asked whether the district was committed to ensuring still having a football season this year and for a timeline for announcing a new coaching staff or interim leadership.
Superintendent Dr. Scriven acknowledged Steeman's concerns and asked him to meet with administrators after the meeting so staff could address his questions directly: "If you and your teammate, who I will get your name later, if you guys could just hold tight for after this meeting ... I'll address you personally," Scriven said. The board did not provide a public timeline during the meeting, and the superintendent indicated follow-up would be provided outside the public session.
The exchange was recorded during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal board action or vote on the football program occurred at this session. Family members, students and other speakers used the remainder of public comment time to thank board members for their service and to introduce new township officials.
What happens next: the superintendent asked the student to follow up by email and signaled administrators would meet with him after the session to provide more information; the transcript does not record the substance of that follow-up.
