Communications staff wins state award; district to prioritize ADA website accessibility

A district communications presenter reported that the district's recently redesigned athletic pages received an award of merit from the state communications association, and she credited community relations assistant Erin Birkett for leading the work on rosters, graphics and social postings.
The presenter said the district is also prioritizing compliance with Department of Justice guidance on ADA website accessibility. "Every graphic, every picture that we put on social media has to have alt text," the presenter said, and added that many PDFs are no longer acceptable on public websites under accessibility expectations. The presenter noted curriculum pages currently contain many PDFs and that staff will coordinate with curriculum leaders to update those pages.
Board members complimented the Rocket Reports and asked about cadence; the presenter said communications pieces are produced on an as-needed basis and that material tied to upcoming testing results and surveys will be published when ready.
The board thanked communications staff for the award and asked staff to continue prioritizing accessibility work districtwide.
