The commenter said the resolution, drafted with the district solicitor, authorizes unbudgeted spending "to support enhanced delinquent tax collection efforts included but not limited to liens and lawsuits" and argued the costs are a calculated risk that will be recouped through collection activity and accumulating interest. The commenter said the district had not used such collection measures since 2021 and framed B2 as a way to reduce real-estate tax burden on residents by pursuing delinquent accounts rather than raising rates.
Board members discussed the item on the record and then took a roll-call vote; item B2 was approved with six yes votes. The chair and solicitor noted the solicitor's office had advised that interest would begin to run once liens were approved and that collection costs can be recouped under the strategy outlined in the recovery plan.
The board recorded the vote and moved the remainder of the consent items by block vote later in the meeting.
