Leadership Academy urges board to embed program in budget as grant funding ends

The presenter named prospective sponsors, including Boost Mobile, which the presenter said committed devices or connectivity support for students.
Board members and staff responded by noting the district budget calendar. The moderator explained the board will receive budget presentations in January and that formal budget work runs through April and May, indicating that any decision to include the Leadership Academy as a recurring line item would be handled during that process. "You're gonna see budget presentations in January and then work on the budget till April, May," the moderator said.
The presenter emphasized the program's educational and service components — 3D‑printing sessions, fishing and outdoor learning with PA Fish & Boat Commission, and prevention classes delivered at no cost to the district — and asked for clarification about whether the Leadership Academy could be embedded into district programming rather than remain grant‑dependent. Board members said they would consider the request during the upcoming budget deliberations.
The presentation also included a short question‑and‑answer exchange about a planned Harlem Globetrotters visit and related media opportunities; the presenter said staff would follow up with the team about filming and publicity.
The board did not take formal action on the Leadership Academy funding request at the meeting. The budget process and the board's January–May schedule were identified as the next procedural steps for any funding decision.
