The Southern Columbia Area School Board voted to appoint Jillian Shupp as the district's next superintendent during its July meeting.
A board member who led the search described a months‑long process that included public outreach, 11 applications and a 306‑response community survey. “The most qualified candidates were selected for the first round interviews,” the board member said, adding the final interviews included the full board, district administrators and teacher representatives. The board member recommended Shupp for the position, saying she had demonstrated consistent leadership across multiple interview rounds.
Board chair called for a voice vote; members responded in the affirmative and the motion carried. Board members who spoke during the meeting emphasized outreach to the community and invited residents to introduce themselves to the incoming superintendent.
The vote concluded routine business items; the board later moved on to policy and program discussions and signaled an executive session later in the evening to address potential litigation. The meeting adjourned after the scheduled agenda was completed.
