Southern Columbia Area SD — Board members agreed to bring a proposed girls-wrestling program to the Sept. 15 agenda after staff and trustees confirmed student interest and an available coach.
"Miss Powell said that she would be the coach," one committee member reported, and the group noted she already is approved as a junior-high wrestling coach, with paperwork completed. Trustees estimated costs would be modest: coach stipend figures for varsity coaching were discussed in the range of about $3,500–$4,500 and singlets around $45–$60 each; with roughly 15 participants expected, uniform costs were described as minimal.
Board members discussed logistics including shared-night scheduling with boys' meets to reduce transportation and officiating costs, and whether existing wrestling boosters would absorb fundraising for a girls team. Staff were directed to advertise for the anticipated girls-head/resident coach and to present the proposal for a board vote at the Sept. 15 meeting.
Next steps: the program will appear on the Sept. 15 agenda for formal approval, and staff will publish a coach posting and coordinate with boosters and athletic scheduling.
