The activities committee reviewed guidance arising from the recently enacted state budget that, according to staff, requires school entities to accept cash for admission to school-sponsored activities.
Mister Snyder told the committee the language is broad and applies across school events — sports, plays, dances and other admissions. He cautioned that specific enforcement details were still “very gray.” The committee discussed whether schools must provide change for large bills and whether a cash surcharge is permitted; Snyder said the guidance he saw prohibits a surcharge but was unclear about how to treat large bills that exceed the event price.
Committee members noted a 60-day window for implementation reported by a peer district representative and agreed not to change gate practices until the state or PIAA issues clearer rules. “We don’t need to rush this,” one member said, adding the district would continue its current practice and publicize upcoming changes when official guidance arrives.
Administrators also affirmed an existing district practice to assist individuals who struggle with electronic payment platforms, which Snyder said the guidance explicitly requires.
