Low signups put junior-high field hockey season in doubt; coaches consider practices and co-op options

The district's activities meeting opened with an update on junior-high field hockey: as of the report, only three girls were signed up for the spring season. The activities lead said coaches will make a last-minute recruitment push and administrators expect to decide in early March whether to field a team.
"We have 3 girls signed up for junior high field hockey...so the junior high coaches are gonna do a last minute push here in the next couple weeks to try to get some girls because we got to let the other schools that are on our schedule know if we're able to field the team or not," the activities lead said.
If administrators cancel official competition, coaches would still run practices and open those sessions to fifth- and sixth-graders so the program retains continuity. Coach Roth has also discussed a possible co-op with Bloomsburg High School if numbers remain insufficient; the activities lead said he has reached out to Bloomsburg’s athletic director and will follow up.
Next steps: activities staff will continue recruitment through early March and report back to the athletics chair; if a co-op is pursued, administrators will coordinate with Bloomsburg.
