District hires maintenance worker and begins multi-winter repainting of middle-school classrooms

District facilities staff updated the operations committee on a middle-school repainting effort that staff say will improve classroom aesthetics and will be carried out over multiple winters.

Bill, the facilities presenter, said the district recently added a maintenance worker whose main focus has been painting classrooms. "Each classroom's taking approximately 3 to 4 days to completely paint," Bill said. He described a schedule in which the painter works Tuesday through Saturday, with two other staffers helping when available.

Why it matters: Trustees and administrators said refreshed classroom environments support learning and that the combination of painting and planned flooring replacement this summer will substantially change the look and feel of the building.

Scope and timeline: Staff estimated the middle-school repaint will take roughly 2.5 to 3 winters to finish all classrooms plus a few ancillary areas. When the middle school work is complete, crews will shift to the elementary school, where logistics — temporarily relocating students and finding swing space — will lengthen timelines.

Board reaction: Trustees praised the creative use of existing staff time to accelerate aesthetic improvements and asked staff to share before-and-after photos with the public. One trustee asked administrators to allow a final walk-through before elementary repainting begins.
