Salisbury students honored as AP Scholars; district highlights classroom rigor

The Salisbury Township School District honored seven students on Nov. 19 as AP Scholars, celebrating their success in Advanced Placement coursework and exams. Superintendent (speaker 2) introduced four AP Scholars with Honor — Beatrice Carrig, Emerson Juhaas, Meredith Kelly and Riley Nemitz — and three AP Scholars with Distinction — Phoebe Balik, Rafael Carpo and Soledad Lausch.
Students described the personal and academic value of AP classes. Beatrice Carrig said she was “grateful for the opportunity to take more advanced courses here at Salisbury” and that she plans to study pre‑law at George Washington University. Emerson Juhaas and other honorees noted balancing athletics and extracurriculars with rigorous coursework; Riley Nemitz, joining by Zoom, said AP Seminar was a standout course.
District leaders credited teachers, coaches and families for supporting students. The superintendent noted AP participation reflects “commitment to taking college‑level work while balancing other responsibilities,” and invited students to a photo for the district press. A board member who teaches at the high school commended AP as “the premier preparation” for college.
The recognition occurred at the curriculum and technology committee meeting, which also included broader academic presentations and business items that followed the student remarks.
