Salisbury Township School Board swears in elected directors, elects new president and vice president and appoints Barbara Chomic to vacancy

The Salisbury Township School District Board of Directors on Dec. 3 administered the oath of office to newly elected directors and completed its annual reorganization, electing a president and a vice president and appointing Barbara Chomic to an unexpired seat.

An election official reading canvass certificates announced that Rebecca Glenister, Laura McKelvey, Joseph Gennall and Ian Riccobani were certified by the Lehigh County election board as having been elected to the Salisbury School Board (terms and vote totals were read aloud by the official). The board’s presiding officer then administered the oath to those directors.

During officer elections, the board approved Joe Gennall as president and Sarah Nemitz as vice president by voice vote after nominations and a motion to close the slate. Following interviews of applicants to fill a recently declared vacancy, the board selected Barbara Chomic as the finalist and voted to appoint her to the unexpired term of Joe Cuzzo (term expiring December 2027). Chomic then read the oath of office and was seated.

Board members framed the selection around experience the district needs going into upcoming contract negotiations and budget work, with several members urging the panel to prioritize candidates who bring skill sets the board currently lacks. A motion to appoint Chomic was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting minutes portion of the transcript.

The board also approved committee dates for the coming year and adjourned the reorganization meeting to proceed to committee work later that night.

What happens next: Chomic will serve until the term’s expiration in December 2027; the board continues routine committee work on audit, budgeting and personnel ahead of the next regular meetings in January and February.
