Lancaster County Academy outlines seats, successes and enrollment rules to Penn Manor board

Amanda Griffin, director of the Lancaster County Academy (LCA), presented the Academy's program, growth and enrollment process to the Penn Manor board on Oct. 6.
Griffin said LCA serves 11 sending districts and has seen a 6% enrollment increase from August to September; the Academy reported 56 graduates so far this year and three additional pending graduates. She told trustees Penn Manor currently has eight students enrolled out of 15 seats purchased by the district and noted an enrollment promotion: when a district purchases 15 seats, the fifteenth seat is provided free.
Program details: Griffin said students typically are ages 16–21 and recommended applicants have about 10 credits; the Academy requires 21 total credits to graduate and includes internships or 55 service‑learning hours as part of the curriculum. She explained intake procedures that involve an aptitude test and interviews, and said the Academy accepts about "95% of our students," describing the program as designed to provide pathways to graduation rather than exclude students.
Operational notes and partnerships: Griffin described the new East Campus at Park City Mall with later hours and secure access, partnerships for service‑learning (CareerLink, Lancaster Conservancy and Lancaster Chooses Love), a no‑cell-phone policy and a rollout of night or hybrid options in January for students demonstrating consistent attendance.
Board member appreciation: Trustees thanked Griffin and the Academy board representative for close communication with Penn Manor principals and for efforts that support at‑risk students. Griffin said the Academy will continue to coordinate with Penn Manor staff on referrals and placement.
