Northern Lehigh presents multi‑year curriculum plan and staff professional development update

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Joseph presented a monthly data report on curriculum and professional development at the Northern Lehigh School Board meeting, outlining the district’s multi‑year work to articulate and align curriculum and to expand common assessment practices.

Mr. Pine described a phased curriculum plan that the district has been implementing across content areas. He said math, ELA and foreign language work has been completed at some levels and that social studies, business and technology were completed in an earlier phase. He described ongoing work to finalize family and consumer sciences, health, PE, science and career programs and to begin curriculum work for art, music and library by the coming year. Mr. Pine told the board the district is continuing to refine rubrics, common assessments and resources so teachers across grade levels can evaluate student work consistently.

The presentation noted the district’s intention to store curriculum materials and evaluations in EdInsight so administrators and teachers have a central hub for standards coverage and auditing. "EdInsight will serve as a hub where teachers can access curriculum materials and administrators can audit coverage," Mr. Pine said. He added that some content — social studies in particular — remains in progress in the platform.

Dr. Joseph summarized professional development efforts tied to the curriculum work, saying administrators, faculty and support staff are participating in trainings to strengthen instruction and student supports. He cited districtwide training plans including Act 55 in‑person safety training and two hours of online PCCD modules on behavioral health awareness and suicide prevention. The district is also training staff in CPI and de‑escalation techniques and partnering with outside organizations to address challenging behavior.

The presentation included examples of local initiatives: administrators presenting at conferences, elementary ELA training for the new program (Amplify/CKLA), and specialized trainings for food service staff and other support roles. Dr. Joseph said the district plans to continue using Act 80 days for focused curriculum review and set a recurring schedule for audits and evaluation.

The board had no substantive questions during the report and thanked the presenters. The presentation closed with an invitation for feedback on the district’s outward-facing curriculum web pages and an assurance that the district would continue refining assessment practices and timelines.
