Penn Manor board honors fall athletes; field hockey staff recognized

The Penn Manor School Board used part of its Jan. 20 meeting to recognize student‑athletes and coaches for accomplishments during the fall season, singling out the field hockey program and multiple all‑state and all‑league honorees.

Athletic Director Tassi told the board he considers one of his favorite parts of the job “the ability and the opportunity to be able to come and speak to the board to brag about our student athletes, our teams, and our coaches.” He reported that 29 student‑athletes earned section, league or all‑state honors across fall sports and praised the community’s support, including livestreaming that allowed broader attendance.

Field hockey was a focus: the program was league and District 3 champions, advanced to the state semifinals, and maintained a 3.9 cumulative team GPA. Coach Suter (staff) was recognized as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association regional coach of the year; coaches and many players introduced themselves to the board during the recognition.

The board singled out several individual achievements: seniors and multi‑sport athletes were noted, and Lily Reiner received special recognition for earning all‑league and all‑state honors while returning from a serious injury; administrators noted she will continue her athletic and academic career at Messiah University.

The athletic director also promoted a National Girls and Women in Sports Day event at the high school planned in two weeks; registration had exceeded 125 as of the morning of the meeting.

The board thanked coaches and athletes and invited the community to upcoming games and the two‑week event.
