Montoursville Area School Board approves routine financial items and a student expulsion

The Montoursville Area School Board on Nov. 12 approved routine business matters including meeting minutes, treasurer reports, budget transfers and invoices and completed a personnel slate and a student-discipline action.

During the business-manager report, Brandy presented the treasurer’s reports for the periods ending Oct. 31, 2024, and a listing of invoices for the period ending Nov. 12, 2024, and submitted them to the board for approval. A motion to approve the financial items was made and seconded; during the roll call the board recorded affirmative votes from members when called, including Mister Albert, Mister Badger, Mister Eisenhower, Mister Heltnick, Miss McCoy, Missus Oberheim and Mister Young.

The board combined personnel agenda items (8.1–8.5) and approved them in a single motion. The board also acknowledged high-school student activities, advisors and officers for the 2024–25 school year, including newly designated Alpha Beta officers, and approved those acknowledgments by motion.

On student discipline, the board voted to expel the student listed in the record as student 262920 from Montoursville Area School “as per agreement.” The motion passed following a stated aye vote; the board did not discuss further details in open session. The board recorded no additional public comment about the case during the meeting.

Board members were briefed that the district has submitted off-site review forms for the school nutrition program and expects an on-site administrative review in January; draft AFR (Annual Financial Report) numbers were expected by the end of the week and single-audit materials have been submitted to auditors.

The meeting adjourned following public comment and final procedural items.

The board is scheduled to receive a short presentation from Raymond James in January on possible borrowing related to a village project.
