A Mount Lebanon School District staff member reported that the district held a senior send-off on Monday, June 3 attended by about 400 seniors and their families and that Commencement on June 6 celebrated 443 graduates.
"We celebrated 443 graduates," the staff member said, calling the evening "a beautiful night" despite a few raindrops and noting photos and the traditional cap toss.
The staff member said the senior send-off allowed graduates to return to their elementary schools to celebrate with staff who supported them earlier in their education. "It was a beautiful event," the staff member said.
In a community highlight, the staff member noted Mount Lebanon High School swimmer Sylvia Roy competed in the Olympic trials, winning her heat in the 100-meter backstroke and finishing 20th overall; she also qualified for the 200-meter backstroke preliminaries scheduled Thursday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. "Keep her in your thoughts as she competes," the staff member said.
Looking ahead to next school year, the staff member announced that classes for 2024-25 will begin Tuesday, Aug. 20, and that kindergarteners will return Thursday, Aug. 22. "We hope that all of our families and students and staff have a very relaxing summer, and we look forward to seeing you back here in about two months," the staff member said.
"And that's my report for this month," the staff member concluded.
