The Montoursville Area School District board voted Sept. 9 to approve the addition of Erica Hoyt to the district's administrative staff.
During consideration of personnel item 8.3, one director asked to see Hoyt's resume and supporting paperwork before voting. School administrators responded that the interview process had already occurred and that Hoyt was the administration's recommendation. After a motion and second, the board approved the appointment by voice vote.
Hoyt introduced herself to the board, saying, "For those who don't know me, I'm Erica Hoyt. I am born and raised in Montoursville... I taught as the high school life skills support teacher and served as a special education supervisor." She told the board she is "excited to start this new journey."
Board members briefly discussed process and access to application materials. One director said they would like to review Hoyt's application and recommendations prior to a vote; administrators replied that hiring recommendations come from the administration and the board's vote is to accept or reject that recommendation. The solicitor was referenced during the exchange about abstentions and voting procedure.
The board also approved, during the same personnel section, other staffing items noted on the agenda (Caleb McWinnie to coaching staff was reported as part of the item).
The district did not specify an official start date for Hoyt during the meeting; administrators said they would coordinate release date and transition details with her current employer. The board announced it would hold an executive session after the public meeting to discuss personnel matters.
