Board approves retroactive change order for athletic lights after conduit damage; project $3,071 over budget

Secretary/Facilities (S4) told the board the change will increase the project cost by $3,071.13 and said contingency funds exist to absorb the overrun.
Board members asked whether the district could submit the cost to insurance; staff said they could inquire but cautioned there may be no way to prove the storm caused the crush and that contractors who drilled or later moved debris might bear responsibility. "I don't feel good about them covering that, but I can ask," the facilities speaker said. Another board member noted that if a contractor drilled near marked lines and damaged them, that contractor could be responsible.
The board agreed to proceed with the reroute to keep the lighting project moving and planned to follow up with the contractor and insurer to explore possible reimbursement.
The board indicated it will retroactively approve the change order at its next meeting.
