"I did not ask in the last meeting were the ages of the people that would be part of this day treatment program ... that I had," a board member said, summarizing constituent concerns. The presenter responded, "We would be looking to accept students in grade 6 through 12," and explained that the application requires information about the proposed location, ADA compliance and safety. The presenter added the district could be approved for a location and never open the program, and that if the district wanted a different site it would have to submit an application for that site.
Board members repeatedly emphasized the need to communicate with the public to "alleviate some of these fears," and discussed exploring off-campus commercial options if those were cost-effective and more acceptable to the community. Several members noted the application and approval process does not immediately commit the district to opening the program or to a specific site; any change in location would require a separate approval process.
No final decision to open the program or select a facility was made during the meeting; board members asked staff to continue work on the application and public outreach.
