Montoursville board authorizes exploration of baseball-field options and seeks proposals to sell elementary building

The Montoursville Area School District board on Jan. 13 authorized two separate facilities actions: exploring options for a high-school baseball field and seeking proposals for the sale of Loyala Sauk Valley Elementary School.

On the baseball-field item the board voted to authorize the superintendent to explore options, which may include engineering and drainage studies and evaluations of adjacent soccer and softball fields. A board member (Committee member, S3) urged involving coaches early in the process, saying their day-to-day perspective on field conditions and drainage will be important to planning. Members stressed the need to look at the totality of the back-area fields rather than treating the baseball diamond in isolation.

On the elementary-school item the board authorized staff to seek proposals to sell the Loyala Sauk Valley Elementary School property. Board members asked whether the administration would seek appraisals, consider selling building versus land, and look at septic and other site constraints. Administration said appraisals and further feasibility steps will follow once proposals are solicited.

What happens next: the administration will gather appraisal estimates and site information and present options and timelines to the board; exploration of the baseball field will include engineering input and coach consultations. No formal sale or design decision was made at the meeting; both actions were authorizations to proceed with study and solicitation.
