Millersburg Area SD board approves stadium audio, fiber to press box and routine personnel actions

The Millersburg Area School District board on Monday approved multiple routine personnel hires and facility purchases, including a $50,732 contract to install a new stadium sound system and a $3,625 quote for fiber to the stadium press box.
Board chair opened the meeting and moved through the consent and action items, which included approving minutes, accepting the resignation of paraprofessional Morgan Long, hiring three substitute teachers (Amber Ladd, Steven Hope and Kirsten Long), approving Trevor Mace as substitute custodian, hiring Norman Benson as a bus/van driver, and approving event worker Chad Grassmeier for athletic events. The board also approved a request for uncompensated leave for Nov. 24 and a new pay schedule for extended-coverage substitute teachers (1–15 days: $150/day; 16–40 days: $175/day; 41–89 days: $200/day; after 90 days: teacher contract rate).
On facilities, staff presented three bids for the stadium sound system and recommended the lowest responsible bidder after excluding one low bid that did not meet the requested specifications or use mounts approved for the district’s existing Musco poles. “Ultimately, though, the one that we’re recommending is the lowest reasonable or responsible bidder,” said Mister Troutland. The board approved the $50,732 contract to furnish and install the new system. When asked whether insurance covered the purchase, Mister Petrie said only a small amount was recovered from remnants of the old system and the new work is largely paid from district funds.
The board also reviewed three quotes for running fiber from the elementary building to the stadium press box and approved the recommendation to accept Guyette Communication Industries’ quote at $3,625. Staff said doing the work in-house or with Guyette reduced cost compared with an earlier professional quote.
Every action taken during the meeting was approved by roll call; the Clerk recorded affirmative votes from the board membership present. The board also approved the 700-series policies on a second reading. The meeting adjourned after a president’s report and holiday remarks.
The board’s approvals were procedural and routine; next steps include contract execution and scheduling of the stadium installation and the fiber work.
