Resident tells McGuffey board ‘we have a bullying issue,’ urges action

At the July 18 meeting, Buffalo Township resident Vicky Jordan urged the board to acknowledge and address persistent bullying in McGuffey schools, saying parents had reported incidents on social media and some had withdrawn children from the district.
"We have to quit denying that there is a bullying issue in McGuffey School District and we have to address it," Jordan said, recounting examples she said parents had posted and saying that informal contacts such as a phone call should be treated as official reports. She said some families had enrolled children in cyber school after experiencing bullying.
Jordan referenced past incidents and said bullying occurs across roles — among students and with paraeducators and coaches — and urged the district to listen to parents and follow up. Board members thanked her for speaking; the meeting included a first read of the district’s bullying policy as an agenda item and administration said the policy would be on the schedule for review and final reading next month as part of ongoing policy work and a planned leadership training.
The board did not take immediate action on Jordan’s comments during the meeting but acknowledged the concerns and noted the policy review process is underway.
