McGuffey SD highlights AP scholars, athletics and names middle-school Student of the Month

At the Sept. 19 meeting, district staff reported a series of student achievements and extracurricular updates. Administration congratulated nine graduates designated AP Scholars, three designated AP Scholars with honors, and several with AP Scholar with distinction status; it also announced upcoming events: a high‑school open house on Sept. 25, a Penn West University college and career fair trip for juniors and seniors on Oct. 22, and parent‑teacher conferences on Oct. 14.
Athletics updates included boys’ and girls’ soccer being in playoff position, girls’ tennis winning three matches, volleyball in second place in its section, cross‑country competing well and golf winning a section title. Administration noted the district had earned a $5,000 donation from a T‑Mobile Friday Night Lights sweepstakes and remains in contention for additional awards.
Leah Augustine, assistant principal, presented the middle‑school Student of the Month for September, Hickory Deloski, praising the student’s preparation, respect and empathy. Augustine said the award is nominated and voted on by middle school teachers and introduced a short video highlighting the student’s family and school contributions. "Hickory shows consistent preparation, respect, involvement, dedication, and empathy at the middle school," Augustine said.
What happens next: Administration will continue to track extracurricular progress and report further awards from the T‑Mobile sweepstakes if they occur.
