The McGuffey School District board returned from executive session and, during a meeting that ran into the late evening, approved a string of personnel actions, vendor contracts and policy steps.
The board accepted resignations from Marissa Lowe, Dinah Crockett, Alexis Daley and Catherine Deacon, each described as accepted "with regret." It also approved hires across the district including Leah Augustine as principal at Joe Walker Elementary (salary $77,938 prorated), Rachel Huey as school psychologist, Mason Anderson as a special-education teacher, Samantha (Sam) Bonas as a long-term substitute, Megan DeClung/McClung and Cara Bailey as elementary teachers, and Michael Burry as assistant girls soccer coach. The board also approved a semester administrative internship for Patrick Baker.
On procurement and services the board approved: an oil and gas lease with Range Resources covering 17.7771 acres in Buffalo Township; an agreement with Hope Learning Center for special-education services (occupational therapy at $75 per hour and speech/language therapy at $550 per day); a price-renewal contract with NRG Direct Energy for 09/01/2025–08/31/2028 (pending solicitor review); the 2024–25 transportation contract with Malacca LLC; replacement of stadium speakers/amplifiers ($19,658.98, Fund 39); rooftop-unit controllers and programming by Wind Water Controls LLC ($8,800, capital improvement fund); and two cafeteria coolers ($15,557.86, Fund 39). The board also approved independent-contractor service agreements for individual-student services.
Routine fiscal items passed as presented, including adult breakfast and lunch prices set to comply with National School Lunch paid-equity rules and vendor payments to Anderson Price for invoices dated 07/31/2024 ($4,560) and 08/31/2024 ($5,700).
President (speaker 1) presided over the votes. For most motions the meeting record shows the standard "All those in favor, say aye" procedure and the chair announcing "motion carries." Where directors asked questions—for example about the NRG contract rate—administrators answered that the rate would hold for the life of the contract.
Next steps: several newly approved hires are contingent on receipt of clearances and verifications; the NRG agreement is subject to solicitor review. The board adjourned at 10:36 p.m.
