McGuffey CTE earns high marks from five-year state audit; teachers seek equipment grant

Renee Cambruzia, McGuffey High School—areer and technical education teacher and FFA advisor, told the committee the Program Evaluation Division udit of the district s vocational agricultural department was "very, very successful." She said the audit, performed once every five years, returned minimal corrections compared with prior cycles and commended the district s CTE staff for preparation and documentation.
Cambruzia said McGuffey offers three approved CTE programs: engineering technology and technicians, agricultural mechanics and general agriculture. She reported robust participation across those programs and provided the district s federal funding figures for CTE: the secondary career and technical subsidy for the 2024'5 school year was $189,800, with a projected reimbursement figure of $201,782 for the following year.
Cambruzzia described six audit corrections that the program must finalize in the district records (down from roughly 20 corrections during the 2017—8 audit). The outstanding items include updating five-year student occupational objective forms to ensure they are stored in permanent student records, implementing a CTE-specific senior exit survey rather than a general senior survey, and documenting that shop and lab spaces meet industry-standard workspace sizing. She said the district s local occupational advisory board has walked the shops and verified adequacy, and staff will upload supporting evidence to the state file.
Cambruzia also highlighted student outcomes and partnerships: multiple students earned national degrees and Keystone recognitions; the programs take students to national conventions and industry tours; and local businesses such as AccuTrex, Devon Manufacturing and Price Boy Fab sponsor student robotics and machining projects. She said the program will apply for the state s supplemental equipment grant to support a planned CNC mill purchase and that conversations with manufacturing partners have helped inform the request.
At the regular meeting later in the night the board approved the appointment of members to the McGuffey High School Career Technical Program local advisory and occupational advisory committees, a routine step the district uses to maintain industry oversight of equipment and curriculum choices.
The board packet will include the audit correction letter Cambruzia said was in members meeting materials; staff said they will follow up by uploading evidence of completed corrections and by tracking the supplemental grant timeline.
