The McGuffey School District Board of Directors appointed Kenneth Grove to fill the District 3 vacancy after a competitive selection process on March 20.
Four applicants — Chris Chadwick, Carl Group, Kenneth Grove and Casey McFarland — each gave two‑minute statements to explain why they should fill the seat vacated during the term. Applicants highlighted community ties and experience: Chadwick cited military leadership experience; Group pointed to 24 years of prior board service; McFarland emphasized mental‑health expertise; Grove described a lifetime of residency and civic involvement.
The board conducted nominations and then a roll‑call vote. Following an initial procedural dispute about removing the lowest vote‑getters and a short recess, Group withdrew his nomination and the board held a final roll‑call that produced a majority for Grove. The presiding officer administered the oath of office and the board welcomed Grove to the seat.
Grove, who told the board he'd lived in the area most of his life and has family who graduated from local schools, said in his remarks that he would "consider it a great privilege to serve the community as a board member." The board recorded the appointment and completed the swearing‑in during a brief recess.
The seat will remain filled for the remainder of the year; the board noted any procedural challenges to the nomination process could be pursued under applicable rules but did not announce further action. The board resumed other business after the appointment.
