Sue Collier, identifying herself as a district resident and a longtime teacher, spoke during the public-comment portion of the Oct. 7 meeting to present a one-time gift pledge of $12,500 to support a newly established social-worker position in the Kutztown Area School District.
Collier said she was speaking on behalf of an organization she named in the remarks as "Good Sound Strong" (the transcript includes variant spellings). She told the board the donation represented a significant portion of the group's savings and that the group's intent is to support students, not to fund an outside organization. "I would like to present this one-time gift of $12,500 to be used to support the newly established social worker position," she said.
The chair and board members thanked the group; the speaker said formal acceptance of the donation will appear on the next board agenda for official action.
Why it matters: funding targeted to a social worker can expand school-based services for students, but this pledge is a one-time gift and the board will consider formal acceptance and any budget implications at a subsequent meeting.
