The Keystone Oaks School District board approved multiple personnel appointments and discussed ongoing staffing challenges for paraprofessionals.
The board moved to approve the appointments listed 1 through 10 and carried the motion after discussion. During the personnel portion of the meeting, members asked how many paraprofessionals the district is short; a committee member responded, "We're still down a lot. Probably about 7." The administration said recruiting remains difficult because of pay and the nature of the work and that negotiations and outreach are planned to improve hiring prospects.
Members also raised an open middle‑school wrestling head‑coach position and whether assistants would cover duties until a replacement is hired. A committee member said assistants are likely to help out in the interim but that a permanent hire was still needed.
The board also approved mentor (tier 1) assignments under the KOEA collective bargaining agreement and approved family and medical leave paired with unpaid personal leave for an employee. The administration explained prorated pay processes for a recently changed assignment.
The administration noted a tentative effective date of Nov. 4 for a mental‑health therapist hire that is awaiting notice and clearance by the current employer.
