Several board members voiced concern about approving supplies spending while the district is managing a fiscal year where expenditures exceeded budget; one member (speaker 3) said he worried about the "optics of spending $10,000 ish, when we have a very tight budget, but we're already over budget by nearly $1,000,000 this year." Another member asked for language limiting the supply cost to a fixed cap.
The motion was amended during the meeting to read that supplies would be "not to exceed $8,500" for the project and that labor would be internal; administration said this would come from capital funds. Later in the recording, during procedural clarification of the amended motion and roll-call, the chair referenced an amount of "$3,500" when confirming roll-call language; the board nonetheless carried the amended motion by roll call. Administration said the work would primarily use regular internal hours and only minimal additional part-time hours.
Board members asked that if supplies costs exceed the approved cap, the project return to the board for additional approval. The board approved the amended motion and program will proceed with the approved spending limit and internal labor.
