Kutztown board approves trail extension, summer programs and conference requests

The Kutztown Area School District board voted to approve a set of non‑curriculum consent items, including a facilities recommendation to allow Pennsburg Borough to extend the Saucony Creek Trail onto district property, the 2025 summer programs (traditional summer school, extended‑school‑year services and a long‑running literacy 'pause camp'), and conference attendance requests for students and staff.

Superintendent Mr. Lambert praised the borough partnership and said the trail extension would improve community access and recreation by connecting the trail behind the football field and athletic complex to the softball and soccer fields behind the middle school. “It extends the trail up behind the football field to extend out towards where the softball and soccer fields are behind the middle school,” he said, noting community health and fitness benefits.

The board also approved the district’s summer offerings; administrators described no significant changes to traditional summer-credit recovery and highlighted the extended‑school‑year program for students with special education needs and the district’s literacy pause camp (offered for more than 35 years). The administration confirmed that traditional summer-credit recovery has student fees while extended‑school‑year and the literacy programs are not fee‑based.

Finally the board approved conference and professional‑development requests, including staff travel to the PMEA conference where student ensembles will perform and an AP Summer Institute tied to a proposed AP precalculus offering.

All three consent items passed by roll‑call votes during the meeting.
