The Keystone Oaks School District board approved a set of personnel and policy items, including a recommended appointment to lead special education and first readings of Title I parent policies.
Superintendent Dr. Straker recommended the board appoint Polly Farrin as supervisor of special education effective July 1, pending receipt of required paperwork, and noted the position is part of the Act 93 administrators’ compensation package. The board moved, seconded and approved the appointment by voice vote.
Dr. Straker also presented first readings for Title I parent policies (items 2–4). Board members asked why there are multiple Title I policies; staff explained Aiken is not a Title I school, while Dormont and Myrtle are, so the district must maintain both district-level and school-level Title I parent policies. "Aiken is not a Title I school…Dormont and Myrtle are a Title I school, so they each have to have their own policy," a staff member said. The board approved the first readings by voice vote.
The personnel report also included acceptance of the retirement of paraprofessional Patricia Constantini after 19 years of service; approval of new hires, including Sean McCreery as a high-school social studies teacher and custodial appointments (one name read as Daniel Rosenberger and another read as Fanny Glasgow); and approval of coaching and stipend assignments for middle- and high-school activities. All personnel items were approved by voice votes.
What happens next: Human Resources will finalize appointment paperwork for the special-education supervisor and implement the approved personnel actions; Title I policies will proceed through the district’s first-reading process.
