A group from Kutztown High School's FFA and their adviser updated the board on the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, describing leadership workshops, career fairs, community service and extracurricular learning opportunities they encountered.
Ayla Blatt, the district’s agriculture teacher and FFA adviser, introduced officers and said the trip included student leadership workshops, an expo center with college and career information, and community-service work at the Boone County Fairgrounds. Student presenters described experiences such as leadership sessions at Lucas Oil Stadium, visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum, and community service projects that included planting and grounds work.
"It was really, really good," one student said of a keynote speaker who addressed overcoming limitations and stepping out of comfort zones.
Donations and community support The board accepted a $500 donation from the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America to support the high school rifle team, and later approved a donation valued at $19,851 from the Optimist Club for adjustable basketball hoops at Crystal and Greenwich elementary schools.
The superintendent and board members thanked donors and noted the equipment will be used for elementary physical education and to support youth athletics.
Next steps The district will record the accepted donations in the minutes and process the gifts per district policy; no further board action was required on the donations at the meeting.
