The Pittston Area School District board on its organization night approved the district's 2026 meeting dates and policies, including a shift to one voting meeting per month, a proposed regular start time of 7:00 a.m., and a change that public comment will be accepted in person rather than via Zoom. Meetings will be broadcast and posted on YouTube.
Staff presented Exhibit A showing the proposed calendar and explained the district is targeting budget adoption on June 15 with a June 29 backup date. The calendar lists tentative meeting dates for most months and proposes reducing formal voting meetings to one per month.
Board members debated how many budget finance committee meetings to schedule. One member urged cutting the currently listed four meetings to three to focus public attendance and streamline the process: "I think it would benefit if we really tighten that up to 3 meetings," the member said. District staff countered that multiple meetings can serve an educational purpose for the public and recommended keeping opportunities to present budget information in more than one forum.
Another board member suggested inviting municipal officials to a budget meeting so municipalities can report on development plans that could affect the district's tax base; staff said engaging municipalities would be valuable and that the district could advertise such sessions.
After discussion and a withdrawn amendment request about web posting, the board moved to a roll call vote and approved the calendar as outlined.
No public comment on non-agenda items was registered in person or online, and the board adjourned after completing reorganization business.
