At its organization meeting, the board of school directors of the Pittston Area School District elected Cook as board president and reinstalled Cecilia Holt as vice president.
The election for president followed nominations for Cecilia Holt and Cook. The board used an open ballot where members announced the last name of their preferred candidate. The clerk announced the result: "Mister Cook wins 5 4," and members congratulated Cook.
The meeting included a swearing-in of newly elected directors. During the oath a director identified in the record as Jonathan repeated the pledge to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the constitution of the commonwealth.
Holt was the lone nominee for vice president and members moved to a unanimous ballot for that post; a subsequent roll call confirmed yes votes from the membership listed on the record. Board leaders thanked volunteers who agreed to serve in temporary roles, and noted Austin was serving as temporary board secretary until Sexton assumes the role next week.
The board also used the reorganization meeting to confirm committee assignments and to request volunteers for several committee alternate positions. Members discussed committee rosters for bodies including the Berks County Intermediate Unit representative, the works tax collection committee and the extracurricular and facilities committee, and several members volunteered to serve.
The meeting closed with procedural housekeeping; the board adjourned after completing organization business.
