Superintendent reviews policies, service agreements and flexible-instruction plan; budget proposal to come for approval

An articulation agreement with Point Park University (effective Jan. 2, 2025) was presented for continuation of certain courses.
On instruction days, Don Hu explained a recent change in school code means the district is no longer required to call flexible-instruction days in the same way. He described keeping a flexible-instruction authorization on file as a “backup” to protect the district against future rule changes and said the district will renew the authorization for three years so “we’ll be good through 2028 to have backup.” He framed the change as a precautionary measure rather than an immediate operational change.
The superintendent said the summer food-service program is currently “fully funded as of now because there’s a little bit from the feds, but a lot from the state.” He noted obligations to submit memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with boroughs and to file required forms with the Pennsylvania Department of Education by July 31.
Finance committee chair previewed the proposed final 2025–26 budget and said a formal proposal will be before the board at the next meeting. The finance report also listed accounts-payable items for the month ending 04/30/2025 and an equipment purchase: a conveyor pizza oven to be funded from cafeteria funds.
What happens next: Several items were presented for future board action (special-education plan, Allegheny IU agreements, Point Park articulation, MOUs, budget approval). No routine approvals were taken during this meeting; those votes are scheduled for upcoming meetings.
