During the public‑comment portion of the meeting, Diana Radzewski urged the board to formally adopt critical thinking as a district learning goal and to expand digital‑literacy instruction at age‑appropriate grade levels.
Radzewski told the board she has been concerned about misinformation among young people and said early, steady instruction on evaluating sources and distinguishing opinion from fact would help. “Making critical thinking part of our goals...teaching kids to distinguish opinions from fact,” she said. She pointed to social media as a primary news source for many young people and urged schools to teach students to evaluate sources early.
Superintendent Mr. Temciano responded that staff have recently spent in‑service time working on building critical‑thinking skills in curriculum alignment and said district elementary staff already teach aspects of digital literacy; he offered to share resources the district uses for those lessons.
Board members and staff acknowledged the concern and said administration would share materials and continue discussion at upcoming meetings.
